IYO Unveils IYO One Audio Computer

IYO CEO Jason Rugolo introduced its IYO One at TED 2024, an AI ear wearable that's designed to be an audio computer. The device is intended to be a virtual audio companion that helps users learn, work, shop and create. The company's IYO Developer Studio helps software engineers build custom AI agents for IYO. 

Google Makes Structural Changes for Its 'AI Future'

Google CEO Sundar Pichai outlines several structural changes to "improve velocity and execution across the company" in a blog post titled "Building for our AI future." The changes involve consolidation in Google DeepMind, responsible AI and platforms and devices.

CAA Creating 'Digital Doubles' of Artists

Alexandra Shannon, who heads strategic development at CAA, says the agency is proactively creating "digital doubles" of clients under the CAA Vault, according to IQ. "We are scanning their image, we’re scanning their voice, we’re scanning likeness and we are then storing that on their behalf,” Shannon says.

IOC Shares 'Olympic AI Agenda'

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) published its "Olympic AI Agenda." The agenda outlines IOC’s AI ambition and guiding principles, high-impact areas for AI applications and the framework and governance mechanisms needed to "mitigate risk and promote the responsible use of AI."

Google DeepMind Publishes 'The Ethics of Advanced AI Assistants'

A team of researchers at Google DeepMind released a report on "The Ethics of Advanced of AI Assistants." The 274-page report covers serval topics, such as value alignment, safety and misuse, access and the impact on the economy, environment and information sphere.

Microsoft and Cognizant Partnering on Copilot Deployments

Microsoft and Cognizant are working together to deploy Microsoft's Copilot line to Cognizant's employees and clients. Under the partnership, Cognizant purchased 25,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot seats for Cognizant employees as well as 500 Sales Copilot seats and 500 Services Copilot seats — to enhance productivity, streamline workflows and "transform" customer experiences. Cognizant will also work to deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot to a million users within its "global 2000 clients."

SAP Releases AI Enhancements to Supply Chain Line

SAP is adding AI advancements to its supply chain line that are designed to improve productivity, efficiency and precision in manufacturing. There are several data-based AI enhancements: optimizing decisions across the supply chain with AI-driven insights; streamlining product development; detecting equipment anomalies; and improving field response.

Groq Supplying LPUs to AI Compute Center in Norway

Groq and Earth Wind & Power signed a letter of intent that calls for Groq — the developer of the Groq Language Processing Unit (LPU) Inference Engine for AI applications — to deploy and operate 21,600 LPUs at Earth Wind & Power's AI Compute Center in Norway in 2024, with the option to increase the number to 129,600 LPUs in 2025.

The explosion of AI is expected to trigger a "10-year critical mineral supercycle," according to a report by The Oregon Group. The firm predicts the energy needs of AI data centers will "increase pressure on mineral supply chains already under strain to meet global net-zero targets." The report, "Artificial Intelligence and The Next Critical Mineral Supercycle," examines trends affecting growth in several sectors: nuclear energy and uranium; renewable energy and battery metals — including cobalt, graphite, lithium, nickel, manganese, rare earths and fluorspar; electricity grids and copper demand; and tin for soldering.

The Abundance Institute Launches to Support Emerging Technologies

The Abundance Institute launched to create space for emerging technologies, such as AI, to "grow and thrive." The nonprofit says "fear is costing us our future," and it aims to "shift the popular narrative from pessimism to optimism." The institute currently lists a 12-person staff and several fellows, including tech leaders at the University of North Carolina, UCLA and Northwestern University.
