LUXEMBOURG — SUSE, a provider of open-source enterprise software, appointed an executive to oversee the development and implementation of its global AI strategy.
SUSE named Pilar Santamaria its VP of AI, according to the company last month.
She reports to Frank Feldmann, chief strategy officer at SUSE.
"Since joining the team, Pilar has evolved SUSE’s AI strategy at pace, acting as a true catalyst across the company," Feldmann said.
Feldmann added that she and her team are going to "change how we innovate as an organization."

Santamaria has over 25 years of experience in technology and go-to-market leadership, with expertise in AI, internet of things (IoT), cybersecurity and cloud computing.
Prior to SUSE, Santamaria was head of EMEA cloud solutions at Google, where she helped introduce Vertex AI.
Previously, Santamaria held senior leadership roles at several technology companies, such as Dell, Microsoft, Cisco, Nortel and Siemens. She also serves as a cloud expert for the European Commission.
She holds a B.A.S. in telecommunications engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and an M.B.A. from IESE Business School, according to LinkedIn.
"It's clear that open-source is the future of AI," Santamaria said. "Compared to the first wave of AI solutions we’ve seen emerge over the past few years, open-source AI has noticeable advantages when it comes to privacy, compliance, security, flexibility and cost."
SUSE says over 60% of Fortune "500" companies use its products to support their "mission-critical workloads."
