The Standard Names Head of AI Strategy and Development

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Standard created a new executive role to “harness AI capabilities” for the company and its customers.

The insurer named Porter Orr its second vice president of artificial intelligence strategy and development, according to the company this week.

Prior to joining The Standard, Porter was head of applied AI products and platforms at the Chattanooga, Tennessee-based insurer Unum

Orr is responsible for leading and administering The Standard's AI strategy. He will partner with employees in IT as well as business and service divisions across The Standard to use AI to "deliver tangible value and productivity."

“Porter’s knowledge and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to grow our existing AI capabilities and find new ways to maximize this technology to enhance customer and employee experience,” said Greg Chandler, VP of IT, The Standard.

Previously, Orr held various roles in data analytics, machine learning (ML) and AI at Mobi Systems, the U.S. Department of Defense and The Walt Disney Company.

He holds a B.S. in computer science and business from Pepperdine University and an M.B.A. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
