What AI apps can users build?

SAN FRANCISCO — The data and AI company Databricks is introducing a tool to create data and AI applications.

Databricks Apps allows users to build and deploy internal applications on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, according to the company yesterday.

The module is designed for building a range of apps: generative AI tools, data visualization, self-service analytics and data quality monitoring.

Users can create applications that use GenAI models, such as natural language interfaces for data querying, content generation tools and AI chatbots.

The company says users can also develop predictive analytics applications that use machine learning (ML) models for forecasting and decision support, such as for demand, supply chain optimization and risk.

The offering is set up to provide automatic provisioning of serverless compute for app deployment, built-in governance with Unity Catalog and secure user authentication through OIDC/OAuth 2.0 and SSO.

It supports several app development frameworks: Dash, Shiny, Gradio, Streamlit and Flask.

Several customer are already using the tool, including Addi, E.ON Digital Technology, Posit, Plotly and SAE International.

Databricks Apps is available in public preview on AWS and Microsoft Azure.
