SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK — The generative AI pioneer OpenAI signed another content deal with a media company.
OpenAI and Hearst formed a content partnership that will "integrate" Hearst's newspaper and domestic magazine content into OpenAI's products, according to Hearst today.
The deal is intended to enhance the "utility and reach" of the companies' offerings.
Hearst's content in ChatGPT will feature citations and direct links for transparency and access to the original Hearst sources.
Under the partnership, OpenAI will incorporate content from Hearst’s journalism brands — including the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Runner’s World, Women’s Health and others — into its AI products.
The deal features over 20 magazines and over 40 newspapers, including titles covering local news, fashion, home design, health, fitness and automotive.
“Bringing Hearst’s trusted content into our products elevates our ability to provide engaging, reliable information to our users,” said Brad Lightcap, COO, OpenAI.
Hearst Newspapers President Jeff Johnson said as generative AI matures, "it’s critical that journalism created by professional journalists be at the heart of all AI products.”
Debi Chirichella, president of Hearst Magazines, said the partnership will "help us evolve the future of magazine content.”
