TORONTO — The Canadian law firm Borden Ladner Gervais appointed a C-suite executive to lead its AI strategy and serve as a generative AI resource for clients.
Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) name Lisa Chamandy its chief AI officer, according to the firm last month. The role is a newly created one by the firm.
Most recently, she served as chief knowledge and innovation officer at the firm.
"As generative AI continues to gain momentum across industries, BLG sees an additional opportunity to stay ahead of the curve by considering the technological developments and more importantly, what this means for Canadian businesses," said John Murphy, national managing partner and CEO, Borden Ladner Gervais.
"We understand how new AI capabilities are expected to impact not only our clients, but also the legal market, our own practices and operations."

Chamandy's leadership of AI at the firm includes various areas: making strategic recommendations on AI-related business opportunities; risk mitigation; financial investments; technology implementation; education and adoption; go-to-market strategy; and data management.
BLG set up an AI Steering Committee to oversee the development and implementation of the firm's "overarching AI strategy," appointing Chamandy as chair of the committee.
As BLG's chief knowledge and innovation officer, Chamandy advanced various innovation initiatives across the firm, including investments in legal technology and legal process improvement as well as initial ventures in AI.
Previously, Chamandy served as national director of knowledge and innovation and consultant of legal services innovation at BLG, where she started in 2016, according to LinkedIn.
She also served in client service innovation and labor and employment at two other law firms.
