What are some of the best AI certifications for robotics pros to learn about AI in their jobs?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a more essential part of other technologies, including robotics. AI technologies can help robots in critical ways, such as avoiding obstacles while moving from place to place and distinguishing between products in various picking operations. As AI develops more, it’s important for robotics professionals to understand and apply AI. Here, we look at some of the top 10 AI certifications in the robotics field.

1. Advanced Artificial Intelligence & Robotics

Certifying Organization: Nexford University

Skills Learned: Certificate candidates take five courses: artificial intelligence, robotics and automation; internet of things (IoT); cybersecurity leadership; and data sciences for decision making. The courses cover various topics: value creation across the value chain phases and various industry verticals; elements of successful AI transformation; and AI use cases across retail, electric utilities, manufacturing, health care, and education; as well as smart workflow, machine learning (ML), advanced analytics, natural language generation (NLG) and cognitive agents.

Duration: Each course of the five courses is 10-15 hours a week for eight weeks

Cost: Currently $360 a course

2. Artificial Intelligence for Robotics

Certifying Organization: Udacity

Skills Learned: Students learn programming related to all the major systems of a robotic car, including planning, search, localization, tracking and control. The class covers several topics; the usage and concepts of a Kalman Filter using Python; the theory and math behind a particle filter; discrete path planning and algorithms for solving the path planning problem; and how to deal with a runaway robot.

Duration: 13 hours

Cost: Currently free

3. Applied AI and Robotics

Certifying Organization: Carnegie Mellon University

Skills Learned: This course leverages a scaffolded series of interactive labs and the NVIDIA Jetson Nano on the JetBot platform to cover core AI and ML techniques — including classification, regression, transfer learning and reinforcement learning — applied to robotic tasks, such as collision avoidance, path following and autonomous racing. Students gain a generalizable understanding of how AI enables robots to perceive and autonomously interact with their environment.

Requirements: Students must have an up-to-date laptop and several pieces of specified hardware and peripherals

Duration: Four to eight hours

Cost: Currently free
