Visual collaboration provider Miro today launched what it described as its most significant product since its founding in 2011. Innovation Workspace builds on the company's Intelligent Canvas product launched in July to create a space where teams can collaborate from start to finish on a single project with the support of Miro AI. The company states the release marks a new era in visual collaboration and a complete rethink of how workers interact, innovate and meet business goals in the digital workplace.
Innovation Workspace, an All-in-One AI-Driven Collaboration Solution
Intelligent Canvas sits at the heart of Innovation Workspace. It's a blank slate where teams can brainstorm, prototype and deliver projects without switching between multiple tools. Canvas is form and file agnostic, meaning workers can move from brainstorm to documentation to task tracking to prototype building all in one space. The platform supports video, audio, image and text files as well as all file types.
According to the company, the AI-powered collaboration platform tackles a persistent challenge in modern work: bridging the gap between creative thinking and practical execution.
“Over the past 13 years, we have transitioned from a digital whiteboard pioneer to visual collaboration leader, and now — the Innovation Workspace. Through it all, we have stayed true to our core belief that the canvas is king. That is because the canvas gives teams an infinite flexible space to innovate without constraints,” Jeff Chow, Miro chief product and technology officer, said of the release in a statement.
In an email interview with Reworked, Chow said Innovation Workspace differs from other collaboration platforms because it is an end-to-end solution that facilitates the entire innovation process, from discovery (brainstorming and research) to definition (synthesis and decision making) to delivery (execution). In short, Innovation Workspace brings together most of the tools common to project collaboration under one roof: task management, messaging, video meetings, document collaboration and more.
Today's launch also included over 30 new product features, including a new visual design for Canvas; AI-based documents, prototyping and tables; new integrations with Microsoft Copilot, PowerBI, Adobe Express, Glean and AWS; a bring your own AI option; data discovery and more. Of particular note are:
- Focus modes: Innovation Workspace includes special focus environments that optimize the UI and only present tools for specific tasks (like presenting or prototyping) to minimize distractions.
- Video calls: Users can now initiate and join video calls without leaving their Miro board.
- Catch-up: AI-generated summaries of changes made to a Miro board since a user’s last visit provide quick project updates and context.
- Docs & Tables: Users now have the ability to format and edit unstructured content (like sticky notes) in a structured format.
- Timeline: A visual representation of project tasks and milestones along a chronological axis where users can easily drag and drop tasks and their owners, plus integrate other widgets.

Team Collaboration With Miro AI
Underlying all of the collaboration capabilities is Miro AI. Chow called Miro AI, first released to customers in November 2023, an "AI-powered thought partner" that uses the artifacts within a given canvas to discover new topics and ideas, kickstart product development workflows and presentations and extract insights from research, team retrospectives and brainstorm sessions. The idea is the AI becomes a collaborator throughout process and not just a supporting tool.
“We believe that AI is most powerful when it is building on human ways and working alongside teams in ways that provide expertise and lend additional strength, much like additional teammates would,” Chow said.
He went on to note some of the most striking features in the launch, including:
AI Sidekicks
These AI-powered agents deliver domain experience, boost diverse perspectives and more. The first Sidekicks will include the Product Leader, the Agile Coach and the Product Marketer.
Sidekicks are not designed to make decisions for users, Chow said, but to round out their thinking. So instead of a user prompting AI with a question, the sidekick follows them throughout their work, proactively offering feedback, identifying gaps and generating new ideas.
Creating With AI
Miro’s core toolbar provides direct access to Miro AI, supporting employees to create docs, user stories, diagrams and more based on their work in the canvas. The now familiar option of creation through AI prompts simplifies the process further.
AI shortcuts
Chow said AI Shortcuts will allow users to quickly move from unstructured to structured work from creating product briefs, user stories, diagrams and more with AI, leveraging the work and ideas on the canvas as the prompt.
Innovation Workspace Continues Miro's History of Agile Development
Miro has always been a proponent of agile development. From its founding in 2011, it has been designed for real-time collaboration — within a team, between teams across an organization, as well as for teams working with external partners.
“Miro has carried this belief into its Intelligent Canvas [and by extension Innovation Workspace],” Chow added. “The process of innovation regularly requires tapping experts from different teams and departments to weigh in or pick up the next phase of development.”
He also notes how easy it is to invite and incorporate new collaborators into the workflow in a Miro canvas — as the idea transforms into actionable outcomes, each participant or team can take ownership of their deliverables and workflows within the canvas.
For the future, Chow adds that in keeping with Miro’s foundational product strategy, the company will continue to advance the Innovation Workspace based on customer experience and customer feedback.
Miro currently claims more than 80 million users, which marks an increase of over 20 million users year over year since 2021, and more than 230,000 organizations.
