In Brief
- Workday is acquiring developer automation platform Pipedream to expand AI integration capabilities.
- The deal adds 3,000+ app connectors for automating workflows across systems.
- Enterprise customers will gain streamlined, actionable AI-driven processes across HR and finance environments.
Workday, Inc. announced it entered a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream, an integration platform for AI agents, on November 19. The announcement comes soon after the HCM giant closed its buy of AI knowledge and learning platform Sana. The Pipedream acquisition will add more than 3,000 pre-built connectors to widely used business applications, according to Workday.
When closed, the deal will improve Workday's enterprise AI platform by enabling AI agents to initiate workflows, retrieve data and execute tasks across Workday and third-party systems. Customers will be able to bring information from across their business directly into Workday while taking action in external applications.
The Workday-Pipedream deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Workday's 2026 fiscal year, which ends Jan. 31, 2026. Financial details were not disclosed.
A Brief Overview of Pipedream
Pipedream, founded in 2019 in San Francisco, develops a platform for software engineers to connect APIs, automate workflows and build AI-driven processes. The company’s tools support both low-code components and full programming in languages such as JavaScript, Python, Go and Bash, and include a publicly accessible integration registry.
Pipedream operates as a fully remote company and reports more than one million users across individual developers and organizations.
The company has raised $22.4 million in funding, most recently a $20 million Series A led by True Ventures in 2022. According to public data, the Pipedream team includes roughly 30 employees.
The Integration Capabilities Pipeline Brings to Workday
According to a Workday statement, the acquisition will enhance Workday's AI platform with several key capabilities:

Workday Builds AI Capabilities Through Strategic Acquisitions
Enterprise software vendors are racing to eliminate workflow fragmentation as studies show many AI deployments fail without direct integration into business processes.
Workday has transformed beyond its HCM roots through strategic acquisitions, including Sana for $1.1B, Flowise (finalized August 2025), and Evisort (September 2024). According to company officials, these moves position Workday as "the new front door for work" rather than just an HR and finance platform.
Market trends indicate a shift toward context-aware workflows that flow naturally across systems, with AI agents moving beyond insights to automate tasks. Workday's Build platform and Flowise Agent Builder, launched in September 2025, reflect this evolution toward customizable AI solutions that can deliver measurable business value through integrated experiences across enterprise systems.
